CAMFED "Sisterhood Week" returns with powerful film

NewsPublished on:

Host a screening of TUNAINUANA - Together We Rise

In 2024, CAMFED Sisterhood Week returns, bringing the opportunity to watch and share a powerful 12-minute film called TUNAINUANA – Together We Rise.

Tunainuana (Official Selection, Mountainfilm 2024) is the inspiring story of Lydia Wilbard, a founding member of our African sisterhood, the CAMFED Association, in Tanzania. As a celebration of this unique support network, Sisterhood Week is the perfect time to learn more about the power of girls’ education and collective leadership.

Sisterhood Week – launched in 2023 and due to take place in early July every year – is inspired by the anniversary of the CAMFED Association, which was founded in July 1998.

This year’s Sisterhood Week launches on Monday, July 22nd.

Here's how to get involved this Sisterhood Week (and beyond)

  • Host a Tunainuana movie night. Spark a discussion about the possibility of change ignited by education, and raise funds to send more girls to school.

  • Follow @Camfed across social media (@CamfedSisterhood on TikTok), and post using the hashtags #SisterhoodWeek and #CAMFEDsisterhood.

  • Sign the Sisterhood Pledge — Or, if you have already, share it with three friends and ask them to sign, joining a movement that’s all about rising by lifting others.

  • Donate to educate more girls. We’ll support them on through school, and offer a safe and supportive sisterhood they can graduate into.

I feel happy. I feel charged. Because now I am no longer doing it alone. I call upon others and we figure it out.

Girls Opportunity Alliance film screening with CAMFED

On the eve of Sisterhood Week, we came together for a special digital premiere of Tunainuana hosted by the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance. The event was moderated by Tsehaitu (Tubi) Retta and included a conversation between Lydia Wilbard and Getruda Amos, who is also a member of the CAMFED Association of women leaders. Getruda shared her journey through education, highlighting the hope and strength she gained from having the support to remain in school and joining a powerful sisterhood.
