Hear from Sussana, Secondary Student, Ghana - Video Transcript
Sussana, Secondary Student My name is Sussana. I come from Yendi [in Ghana]. I’m a Visual Arts student at senior high school. I’m happy to be selected to received support from CAMFED.
Text on screen Together, we make sure students like Sussana can learn and thrive, with the support of a trained mentor and recent school graduate – a Learner Guide.
Mariam, CAMFED Association member and Learner Guide I’m Mariam, a CAMFED Association member. After I completed senior high, I became a Learner Guide. I met Sussana in 2021. She told me her problems, she wasn’t comfortable in class, sharing her views with her colleagues in class. I started mentoring her.
Sussana, Secondary Student I first met sister Mariam in 2021. She’s bold, confident and she cares out everyone. I feel free to talk to her about my personal problems outside the class.
Mariam, CAMFED Association member and Learner Guide Through continuous mentorship, Sussana’s now able to be confident in class. After classes too, I always make sure I visit her home to know how she’s managing her home activities and her studies. And she’s now doing well, she’s able to present herself well in class.
Sussana, Secondary Student Apart from the physical support, such as groceries, [menstrual] pads, and other school-going materials, I’ve also benefited from My Better World [life-skills] sessions and counseling for a Teacher Mentor.
Mr. Agbeko, Teacher Mentor A Teacher Mentor is a teacher who is trained to offer psychological, emotional and sometimes academic support to students. Sussana is always with me, and I always encourage her to take part in every activity in the school.
Sussana, Secondary Student Prior to CAMFED support, I thought I would have dropped out from school. Now, my dream of becoming an art teacher is becoming into reality.
