CAMFED Zambia Board — Member
Dr. John Chileshe is an independent education consultant. He obtained a PhD in African Studies from the University of Sussex in 1984, and has more than two decades of experience serving at the University of Zambia (UNZA) as a Lecturer, Researcher, and Administrator. During his tenure at UNZA, he served as Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, acted as Registrar and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and was a member of the NIPA Governing Council.
Throughout his career, he has undertaken several consultancies in the education sector for the public sector and the donor community, involving bilateral and multilateral education programs. He worked as a Senior Education Consultant at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from October, 2004, to March, 2019, and as Education Consultant at the Embassy of Ireland, from September 2007 to April 2011. He also served as board member of the Zambian Governance Foundation, a civil society organisation.
Dr. John Chileshe’s official involvement with CAMFED commenced in May 2014, when he was appointed by CAMFED as Member of the CAMFED National Advisory Committee for the Girls’ Education Challenge Innovation Project. Today, he serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees at CAMFED Zambia, appointed in January 2022. Dr. Chileshe also serves as a Member and Vice-Chairperson of the Board of the Zambia Qualifications Authority, appointed by the Minister of Higher Education in July 2020.
