In the lead-up to International Women’s Day 2024, CAMFED’s CEO Angeline (Angie) Murimirwa and CAMFED Zambia Program Manager Mwangala Mukelabai –  members of the CAMFED Association of women leaders educated with CAMFED support – joined Radha Ruparell of the People First Community to discuss collective leadership for girls’ education, sisterhood, and the power of communities to deliver a better world for all children, at scale.

On March 8, 2024, two CAMFED Association members from Ghana took to Citi TV to discuss all things girls’ education and women’s leadership in honor of International Women’s Day. Nurse Juliana Atanga talked about dividing her time between work as a health professional and as a shea entrepreneur, employing 95 other women, following support from CAMFED. District Operations Officer Latifa Alhassan gave an overview of our programs, all of which foster inclusion for the most marginalized. 

In this article on Forbes, Timothy J. McClimon highlights three organizations leading year-round collective action to promote the inclusion of women and girls. In an overview of CAMFED’s movement, he outlines our commitment to ensuring girls from disadvantaged rural communities across Africa can thrive in school and after graduation, as well as citing a powerful description given by Angie Murimirwa during a conversation with New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof in 2021.

In this article on Triple Pundit, Riya Anne Polcastro speaks to CAMFED Association member and climate-smart agriculture expert Esnath Divasoni. Esnath explains the impact of young women with first-hand experience of climate shocks and hunger, who are now supporting their communities to become food secure and climate-resilient – growing green livelihoods, and ensuring children have nutritious meals and the resources they need to go to school.

A new round-up by Kamrin Baker identifies nine TED Talks to tune into in March, which is Women’s History Month. Angie Murimirwa’s 2023 talk ‘School is just the start. Here’s how to help girls succeed for life,’ is recommended alongside others given by inspiring female speakers on a range of topics. They include Sheryl Lee-Ralph on building self-confidence, Aisha Nyandoro on redefining wealth, and Golshifteh Farahani on the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement.

Research and government partnerships are key to inclusive education and collective leadership. At the Comparative and International Education Societies Conference, CIES 2024, in Miami, Florida, CAMFED’s Regina Lialabi from Zambia will discuss our participatory research with government partners, with a focus on integrating education innovations led by young women as peer mentors into the wider government school system. Lydia Wilbard, our Executive Director Learning & Engagement from Tanzania, is also set to join the conference in the United States.
