“Lack of access to education is the single most important barrier to gender equality... A girl who is educated becomes a woman who is influential.”
– The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, speaking on International Women’s Day 2019
“We know that when women are empowered, they immeasurably improve the lives of everyone around them - their families, their communities, and their countries.”
– The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, speaking in June 2013
CAMFED is a pan-African movement revolutionizing how girls’ education is delivered. Through a gold-standard system of accountability to the young people and communities we serve, we have created a model that radically improves girls’ prospects of becoming independent, influential women. Our impact increases exponentially through the Association of young women educated with CAMFED’s support. Together, we multiply the number of girls in school and accelerate their path to livelihoods and leadership.
Total Raised - £205,305
That’s enough to support 114 young African women through a whole year
of technical & vocational training
A message from Angie Murimirwa, CAMFED Executive Director - Africa.
Angie Murimirwa was one of the first young women supported through school by CAMFED. She is the founding member of the CAMFED Association, and now leads our girls’ education and women’s empowerment work across five African countries: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Malawi and Ghana. Thank you for standing with us!
Many of you supported CAMFED when the Sussex Squad called on the generosity of its members and followers during the #GlobalSussexBabyShower campaign. You honored The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ commitment to community-led change and social justice, and celebrated the imminent arrival of baby Archie by donating to causes that The Duke and Duchess care deeply about.
We were thrilled to have been chosen to benefit from your generosity as the Sussex Squad celebrated Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s birthdays.
Your gift will support young African women from extremely disadvantaged backgrounds to continue their education journey post-secondary school, including in vocational colleges. You’ll support them to acquire the skills they need to get a job or start a business, building independent lives with choice and agency.
Support a new generation of influential African women
