Melody* - Video Transcript

Melody* Education is very important because always my mum keeps telling me that when you educate a girl child, you educate a nation. My mum isn’t working. I lost my dad when I was three. I’ve got two brothers and one sister. I’m the last born in that family.

I became a CAMFED scholar in 2014 when I was in Grade 8. Before 2014, it was difficult for I and my mum to provide school needs. Maybe if I wasn’t selected as a CAMFED scholar, by this time maybe I would have been married, because of the challenges I was facing. My elder sister, she stopped in grade 9, and she is married at the moment.

What is important for me is that I am able to go to school, and I need nothing more, because education is important for success. The job I would like to have in the future is just to become a journalist because whenever I see someone reading the news on TV it really touches my heart. And I wish someday to be like those guys… Of course I will be like them!

CAMFED has helped me in so many ways, they’ve bought me shoes, my school uniform, school bags, the pads, so many things. Even, they pay my school fees. The most important thing for me, after I finish school, is just to do something good for those people who are in need. I will also be able to provide the need of my mother and my siblings because I know where they went through. So, I must do something to motivate the community.

In future, my plans is to just build an orphanage. I’ll be helping those people in need. My future now is bright because I am able to go to school! And it is waiting for me so I can’t wait to find it.
