The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation today revealed that CAMFED’s proposal to its 100&Change competition was one of the highest-scoring proposals, designated as the Top 100.  These proposals — for solutions to help solve the world’s most critical social challenges — have been published on the Lever for Change Bold Solutions Network, which was launched today, allowing funders to search for and evaluate world-changing projects.

We are thrilled by this important recognition, and by the spotlight the MacArthur Foundation is shining on our collective global efforts to provide lasting, impactful solutions to global challenges. Through our project, we are setting out to prove that investing in girls’ education and women’s change leadership delivers ever-increasing returns for communities, countries, and our planet. There’s never been a more urgent time to act for those at the margins of society.

CAMFED’s project, SISTER, tackles the problem of girls’ exclusion from education by creating post-school opportunities for young women. SISTER connects school graduates to each other, to opportunities, and enables them to reach the most excluded girls. It provides young women with the skills to get girls into school, help them to learn, and support them to succeed, and rewards them for their “give back” with training and loans to grow new opportunities, create local jobs, and financially support more girls. “MacArthur seeks to generate increased recognition, exposure, and support for the high-impact ideas designated as the Top 100. Based on our experience in the first round of 100&Change, we know the competition will produce multiple compelling and fundable ideas. We are committed to matching philanthropists with powerful solutions and problem solvers to accelerate social change.” – Cecilia Conrad, CEO of Lever for Change and MacArthur Managing Director, 100&Change

All Top 100 submissions were rigorously vetted against four criteria: impactful, evidence-based, feasible, and durable. They underwent a peer-to-peer review, an evaluation by an external panel of judges, and a technical review by specialists whose expertise was matched to the project. MacArthur’s Board of Directors will select up to 10 finalists from these high-scoring proposals this spring.

The Bold Solutions Network, featuring CAMFED, was designed to provide an innovative approach to identifying the most effective, enduring solutions aligned with donors’ philanthropic goals and to help top applicants gain visibility and funding from a wide array of funders. It contains a project overview, 90-second video, and two-page factsheet for each proposal. Visitors can sort by subject, location, Sustainable Development Goal, or beneficiary population.
