Hear and learn from women taking action to uphold the fundamental right to quality education.

This International Day of Education (January 24) we honor the commitment to equitable access to quality education – in our partner communities, among policy makers, and across our global movement.

I'm Mwangala, unstoppable leader and education activist

CAMFED’s mentorship and material support have been pivotal in shaping the leader I am today. Having risen to Program Manager at CAMFED Zambia — the very organization that supported my education — I provide encouragement, mentorship, and connect young women to leadership, business and higher education opportunities. It’s really rewarding to see young women succeed, and be able to support more children to go to school.

As CAMFED Association members, we share our resources with vulnerable people in our communities — not because we have plenty, but because we understand what it means to go to school on an empty stomach, without shoes, books, or hope for the future. With CAMFED’s support, we have achieved so much, and we are reinvesting the benefits of our education to uplift the next generation of girls.

I’m so proud to lead alongside game changing young women. All of us stand as powerful role models for the next generation, advocating for gender equity in education on a global stage.

CAMFED's leaders on why 'education is everything'

A new film, made possible by our partner King Philanthropies, and created by Pique Action, highlights the impact of CAMFED graduates trained as climate-smart Agriculture Guides. Active in our partner communities across Africa, these young women are working to improve food security and climate resilience in hard-hit rural school communities.

The film features interviews with CAMFED’s CEO Angeline (Angie) Murimirwa and sustainable agriculture expert Esnath Divasoni. They describe CAMFED’s 3-level model, which starts with supporting girls through school:

  1. Work with school communities to provide girls with the individualized financial, material and psycho-social support they need to attend and succeed in school.
  2. Support young women to transition to work and positions of leadership through the CAMFED Association — which in turn supports the next generation of girls to go to school.
  3. Partner with governments to ensure that entire school systems better serve the needs of all children.
