Madam Esther Akomaning is a renowned Agriculture practitioner and champion in nutrition and family life education. She is widely known in the Central Region of Ghana as an advocate for women in Agriculture.
She attended Kwadaso College of Agriculture in the Ashanti Region and obtained a Diploma in Agric Extension and also acquired a diploma and subsequently a Bachelor of Science in Home Science from the University of Ghana, Legon. She followed up with a Master of Philosophy in Agric Extension and is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
She began her career as a Technical Officer with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in 1982. She rose through the ranks to become a Regional Agriculture Officer for the Central Region, with direct oversight of Women In Agric Development (WIAD). In her role, she led District Agric Officers to train women groups in Agro-Processing and improved packaging as well as gender issues revolving around family planning and women rights such as access to lands and other resources.
She supported the development, implementation and monitoring of many projects, including the Roots and Tubers Improvement and Marketing Project (RTIMP), West Africa Agriculture Production Project (WAAP) and World Cocoa Foundation among others. She serves as a member of the District Development Committee.
