This is the moment to invest in girls’ education

As G7 leaders meet to make decisions that affect the future of this planet, and the UK parliament has the opportunity to review its decision to cut aid spending, Phillip Inman, Economics Editor of the Observer, writes in the Guardian about the two most vital measures to take in order to avoid disaster in parts of the African continent: Educating girls, and vaccines. In his article, he recognizes that girls’ education is key to solving the world’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, and cites CAMFED as one of the most important aid agencies of the moment.

A moment to celebrate

Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, who announced the birth of their daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor yesterday. We were delighted to be selected as one of the organizations the couple asked their wellwishers to support. Both Harry and Meghan have met with young women leaders in the CAMFED Association from Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They have seen first-hand the transformative impact of supporting girls to go to school, learn, thrive and become changemakers in their communities.

A moment to act

Today, Transform Education, a young feminist coalition hosted by the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI) is bringing together youth leaders to demand a power shift. CAMFED, a founding member and partner of UNGEI, with a leadership of more than 178,000 young women once at risk of exclusion from education, backs this call.
