This Day of the African Child (June 16) hear from Elizabeth, one of the girls we serve, and from Madam Lulamba, one of our school community members who will stop at nothing to help students learn and succeed:
Hear from Elizabeth in Zambia
When I found out that I would receive CAMFED support, it was such a relief for me and my parents. My parents were very happy because they knew we were going to be helped by someone. My mom and I felt great. I received a full uniform, books, soap, and every term I am given menstrual pads.
My hopes for the future are to finish school with good grades, and go to a respected university. I get very good grades now, and I motivate my three younger siblings to try their best in class. I am a role model to them all.

Hear from Madam Lulamba
My name is Madam Lulamba, I’m the CAMFED Teacher Mentor (a teacher with additional training in guidance and counseling) at a secondary school in Mpika district, Zambia. I was motivated to become a CAMFED Teacher Mentor as I could see how girls faced a lot of challenges in their education.
Elizabeth is one of the students who has opened up and confided her challenges to me in recent years. I have supported her to stay in school and now she is thriving in her education. Elizabeth’s academic performance is very good!
It makes me happy when I see a lot of girls being in school and concentrating on their studies. When a girl is educated, her whole family and society will benefit.
