Martha

CAMFED Association member and Early Childhood Education Teacher, Zambia

I felt so glad and delighted when l saw my name among the successful recruits because teaching makes our world better.

My name is Martha, I am a CAMFED Association member from Mpika district, Zambia. CAMFED supported me through my primary, secondary and tertiary education. I studied Early Childhood Education (ECE) at the University of Zambia, graduating with a diploma in 2017.

I was recently recruited – along with 116 of my fellow sisters in the CAMFED Association – by the Zambian Teaching Service Commission to start my first teaching post. I know that as a teacher, l will use my skills and gifts to achieve good things.

In my new role as an ECE teacher I will adapt my teaching to the needs of the individual child or group, and plan innovative ways to keep the children actively engaged. I aim to impart knowledge to children through fun and play, ensure holistic learning, and track their progress.

In my classroom I will see each child as unique and special.

l love the energy of kids, they keep me active and always learning new things because young children have creative minds.

My personal experiences will help me relate well with children because I understand that children come from different backgrounds.

I will share with them stories of my past experiences and help them find solutions to their challenges.

Teachers are so important because children carry what they are taught at a young age throughout the rest of their lives. They will use what they have learned to influence society. Teachers have the ability to shape leaders of the future in the best way for society, and to build positive and inspired future generations.

Education is important because it develops critical thinking in a person, it develops skills essential to daily living like learning how to discern right from wrong. Education helps an individual gain qualifications and makes them more likely to secure a job and be self-reliant.

In reality, teachers have the most important job in the world.
