Dr Joan Nyanyuki has over 20 years’ experience in strategic and organizational leadership in nonprofits advancing human rights, social justice, gender equality and inclusion. She has led policy advocacy and influencing; research, partnerships and networks; community engagement; and supported survivor activism. Dr Nyanyuki is dedicated to a people-centered approach that places human dignity above all, in her leadership and in her drive for social transformation.
As Executive Director of African Child Policy Forum, Dr Nyanyuki heads up a pan-African center for policy advocacy and dialog on the African child. She was previously Amnesty International’s Regional Director in East Africa and the Great Lakes. Earlier in her career Dr Nyanyuki held leadership roles at the Coalition on Violence against Women and the Independent Medico-Legal Unit in Kenya. She serves as a Trustee at Frontline AIDS, a UK-based charity working to end AIDS, and has supported Physicians for Human Rights’ program against sexual violence in conflict zones.
Dr Nyanyuki began her career as a medical doctor, working with survivors of torture and sexual violence, before undertaking advanced studies in human rights at The London School of Economics as a Chevening scholar.
