Get involved, share our calculator with colleagues and see the difference your collective efforts can make. Gather in a meeting room or over a virtual coffee to watch a short film, and celebrate how every contribution, big or small, helps keep children in school across Africa.
What is an hour worth?
Office workers spend on average two hours a day checking and replying to emails. Students like Katongo spend the same amount of time walking to school, often waking up well before sunrise and returning home after dark. Despite the long walk, it’s a journey she looks forward to every day. Her favorite subject is math, which is useful when she helps her aunt sell bananas.
She knows when she arrives she has a place in the classroom – the same classroom she was barred from two years ago because her school fees were unpaid. When the Head Teacher noticed, she was put on the list for assistance from CAMFED, and will be the first in her entire family to finish school. When she thinks of this, “it makes me so happy, I want to jump!”
