Join us for this Skoll SideBar Event, “From Mobility Poverty to Safe Access: Closing the First and Last Mile Gap for Rural Communities”, Hosted by World Bicycle Relief and Fika.
The session will bring together leaders from across development, research, and implementation to share practical, scalable approaches – from bicycles to infrastructure and the partnerships needed to drive lasting impact. Partners across sectors will explore solutions to rural mobility challenges and their role in unlocking access to essential services and opportunities.
Eliza Chikoti, former GPE youth leader, current Program Officer at CAMFED Malawi and member of the CAMFED Association will contribute insights on girls’ education and leadership, highlighting how safe, reliable transport is critical to expanding opportunities for young women in rural communities, alongside contributions from organisations including Spring Impact, IDinsight, One Acre Fund, and Living Goods.
This session is for funders, NGOs and implementers, government actors, policymakers, and practitioners working across transport, health, education, agriculture, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods. No technical background is required. Key ideas such as mobility poverty, safe access, and first- and last-mile connectivity will be explained in plain language.
