On Day of the Girl (October 11th), we’re celebrating the girls hoping for a better future — and the young women who are turning that hope into action.
Across the CAMFED movement, girls are imagining brighter futures for themselves and their communities. Young women graduates are working to turn those visions into reality: mentoring students and equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in a changing world.
Every act of leadership creates a new opportunity for another girl, another family, another community.

People sometimes underestimate girls. I want to change this. I want girls to believe in themselves, stay in school and know that they can achieve their ambitions.
My ambition is to become a psychiatrist. I want to think deeply, and find solutions to mental health issues.
What makes me confident is my ambition. Education will equip me with the skills I need to pursue my dream career. Whenever I remember my dream, I become confident. In the future, I want to support other girls, just as CAMFED supported me.

With support to pursue her goals, Gloria will become a powerful force for change, joining young women like Charity, who are showing what it looks like when hopes become reality.
As members of the CAMFED Association — the network of women leaders educated with CAMFED support — they are using the skills, confidence and opportunities they gained through education to act as role models who support girls to stay in school, build businesses, create jobs and open doors for the next generation.
Growing up in Malawi, my family struggled with poverty, and staying in school became a challenge. CAMFED’s support helped me remain in school and inspired a new dream: becoming a human rights lawyer.
Today, I am in my third year of law school. I also support young women in my community to transition to lives of independence. Being part of the CAMFED Association has shown me the power of a sisterhood that feels like home.
My words to every young girl are that our background must never limit our desires and ambitions. With hard work, determination and a supportive community everything is possible.
