Peggy, aspiring president, Zambia

I am the third born of four children, and I live with my grandmother in Chinsali district. I help a lot around the house. Before CAMFED stepped in, I lacked books and pens due to our financial challenges.

Now, I have everything I need to do well in school. I’ve even gained a “big sister,” who we call our Learner Guide. I enjoy her My Better World life-skills and wellbeing sessions because I am learning how to lead.

CAMFED also worked with my community to build a new toilet block at my school. Previously, I was sometimes sick and off school because of water borne illnesses. But now I spend more time in the classroom working towards my dreams.

My favourite subject is civic education because it teaches me how to be honest and fair. When I finish school, I want to be president!

When I complete school, I am excited to achieve each and every one of my goals. I am going to be a lawyer! My favorite subject is civic education because it teaches me about current affairs and how I can help people to know about their rights. My Learner Guides have helped me build my self esteem and develop my public speaking skills. When girls are educated, they get to show each and every person that girls can also be someone great in life.

Ebenezer, aspiring medical doctor, Tanzania

I have gained so much confidence and self-awareness with my Learner Facilitator (peer mentor), Miss Jamila, by my side. She talks with us girls every day and encourages us to reach for our dreams.

I have so many favorite subjects that it’s impossible to choose just one! I like mathematics, physics, Swahili, English, and especially civics because I want to advocate for others.

My dream is to become a medical doctor so that I can treat people who are sick and give them hope of a healthy life. I want to learn new things every day and study hard so I can achieve all my goals.

I have big dreams for my learners. Maybe in the future, if I go to a hospital or to parliament, I will find them there.

Octavina, aspiring dentist, Tanzania

Education has helped me get skills and knowledge. Before CAMFED started supporting me in school, I could not think about things clearly.

But now that I am educated, I am able to think about things critically and proactively. When I grow up, I want to be a dentist, so that I can help people with their dental problems.
