John Theodore Azam is a seasoned Social Worker with over 15 years of experience in the Local Government System. Currently, he serves as the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development at the Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region. Throughout his career, John has been involved in implementing and formulating policies to enhance the welfare of vulnerable groups, including children, people living with disabilities, and women. His work includes key programs like LEAP 1000 (the provision of cash transfers and health insurance), Integrated Social Services, and advocacy for the rights of vulnerable groups.
John has collaborated with non-profit organizations and served as the pioneer secretary of the CAMFED District Education Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and philosophy and an MA in Social Policy Studies from the University of Ghana, where he won the Best MA Social Policy thesis in 2020/2021. His additional training includes various courses on child protection, social services, and social policy initiatives in Africa.
