OFFICIAL SELECTION MOUNTAINFILM 2024: This is the story of a girl from rural Tanzania and the rise of a sisterhood of change leaders across Africa. It’s a message of hope and solidarity, that centers lived experience and community, and explores the power of female education to transform our world. Now,  Lydia Wilbard (the subject of this film) is a girls’ education and gender equality expert, and the CAMFED Association – the network of women leaders educated with CAMFED support – is a force for good across the African continent. The film was directed by Lindsay Branham at NOVO Films.

Poverty is the greatest barrier to accessing an education. 95% of girls from the most disadvantaged communities in rural Africa never complete secondary school.

CAMFED is working to change that.

With access to education, women can do amazing things: launch businesses, become health workers, run schools, lead governments, whatever they dream, making the world a better place for everyone.

We believe that every child is entitled to a quality education in a safe environment, and to a life as an independent adult. That’s why CAMFED, the Campaign for Female Education, builds an individualized network of support around each girl, providing her with tailored assistance during school, beyond school, and into her future.
