My heart is always glad to support children in school

My name is Felix, I am a father and a member of the local Parent Support Group here in Bongo, Ghana. Parent Support Groups are CAMFED Champions who pool resources to support children in school, such as providing school meals, purchasing school-going essentials, and safeguarding vulnerable students.

I joined the Parent Support Group because I saw all the good work a group of mothers were doing to help local school children. I decided to join them and see how I could help.

It is not good for a child to be at home, not learning. If children are left unsupported, they will not go further in their education. That’s why we parents come together and support in whatever way we can.

To help the group raise funds, I weave baskets to sell and I also do farming. Whenever the mothers need anything and I can help, I give it to them. I rear livestock, so sometimes I can sell a chicken or guinea fowl at the market and then give the money to the group so we can support more children.

CAMFED’s work in our school has been very helpful. Our children are progressing because they have been provided with books, school bags, and shoes to wear. Having these resources motivates the children and ensures they can stay in school to reach their potential.
