Adolescent Girls: The Agency to Navigate Digital Technologies (World Bank series)

The second Learning to Empower Adolescent Girls at Scale (LEAS) discussion, hosted by the World Bank Group (WBG), brings together policymakers, development practitioners, and researchers around International Day of Education, themed “AI and Education: Preserving agency in a world of automation.”

• The panel will include experts from the World Bank, the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), the Flemish Association for Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance (VVOB), and CAMFED — represented by Dr. Shungu Gwarinda, Executive Director – Africa.
• The session will highlight the importance of digital technologies in development (including the benefits of AI) and the role of education in bridging the digital gender divide to support adolescent girls’ agency, especially those in fragile, conflict, and violent (FCV) settings.
• Further, the discussions will draw on evidence of the risks that digital technologies pose to adolescent girls, emphasizing the need for digital literacy and skills to mitigate these risks.
