On November 6, 2024, Angie was bestowed the title during the annual convening of the CAMFED Association — the network of women leaders educated with CAMFED support — held in Tamale, Ghana. The enskinment celebrates Angie’s tireless efforts to champion women’s leadership and transform education systems to better serve marginalized girls across rural Africa.
As one of the first girls to be supported through school by CAMFED, Angie has been on a transformational journey. Once a disadvantaged student at risk of dropping out of school because of a lack of financial resources, today she is a global leader advocating for equity in education. The support she received from her community and from CAMFED powered her drive to join forces with other graduates in our sisterhood of change leaders, the CAMFED Association.
Under her stewardship, CAMFED has developed a sustainable leadership model that integrates the expertise of young women, who have overcome exclusion from education, into key decision-making processes.
Angie’s enskinment highlights the vital role of development chiefs, who can use their influence to drive economic growth and improve education and health outcomes. The title carries great significance in Ghanaian culture, symbolizing a leader who bridges traditional governance with modern needs to drive progress. For Angie, this title honors her achievements and the collective efforts of those working to make education a reality for marginalized communities. In her acceptance speech, Angie reaffirmed her commitment to serving with the most vulnerable, a promise she’s upheld throughout her leadership.
