At CAMFED, sisterhood is not just a value — it’s our model for lasting change.

We believe that effectively supporting an individual means investing in the structures that surround her.

CAMFED treats everyone we work with as an individual. But we do not support anyone in isolation.

CAMFED not only pays school fees, but provides other essentials, such as uniforms, books, and menstrual products, safe boarding facilities, or bicycles for girls to get to school more quickly and safely. We train teachers in child protection, and young women as role models to other girls.

What makes us different: We invest beyond the classroom, supporting young graduates in the CAMFED Association with additional training and resources, so they can, in turn, lead change for the next generation.

Our model is recognized as one of the boldest solutions for tackling the biggest challenges of our time – and it all starts with supporting a girl to go to school.

The Multiplier Effect: Progress powered by sisterhood

When a young woman finishes school with CAMFED support, she doesn’t stop there. She joins a sisterhood of over 312,000 women leaders who like her, know what it means to overcome barriers and are determined to break them for others.

Together, they mentor girls in their communities.

They help them stay in school.

They give back, investing their own time and resources so others can follow.

Every CAMFED graduate, on average, goes on to support at least another three girls in turn. And she’ll go on to mentor and pass on her skills to many more, creating employment and opportunity, tackling inequality and injustice.

Three become nine. Nine become twenty-seven.
