Angeline Murimirwa, CAMFED Executive Director, Africa On Thursday the second of July 1998 I found myself in a room with 400 other young women. We had been educated through a school and supported by CAMFED.
Text over moving imagery We started the alumnae network (the CAMFED Association) to keep our friendships going to continue to stay connected and to continue to support each other, but most importantly, to mentor other young women who are coming through school. To tell them that actually there is a light at the end of the tunnel. We are showing that when you educate one, you educate many.
Our members educate on average 3 other children who are not part of their immediate family. They support them with books, uniforms; they pay their tuition fees they provide for their food and other supplies that they need in order that they stay in school. So those children who are at risk of dropping out or those children who have already dropped out of school, our members actually go and make sure they return them and keep them in school.
Voiceover I am helping them to solve the different challenges they face. It’s what I am very proud of, the rise of community awareness.
Voiceover We are giving them that spirit to say, they can believe in themselves. They can also be able to support others.
Voiceover We are really helping, we are really helping our community and it’s going a long way to develop our nation, so I think CAMA (CAMFED Association) is really strong.
Voiceover It’s a peer network support where I’ve met a lot of sisters from different families, from different countries and communities that really supports me emotionally, physically and also innovates me and motivates me in the things that we do.
Voiceover With CAMA (CAMFED Association) we can conquer the world.
