CAMFED is honored to be a beneficiary of The New York Times Communities Fund for the third year running. The only organization working internationally among this year’s chosen nonprofits, CAMFED was selected for its award-winning, grassroots-led model supporting girls in rural communities in Africa to go to school, succeed and become leaders guiding the next generation through school.

Education is the best escalator to a better life, for individuals and for countries...Opportunity engine CAMFED [is doing] heroic work advancing girls' education in Africa.

The change we want tomorrow depends on the action we take today

Girls’ education is one of the most powerful investments we can make in the future — because sending a girl to school today will shape the world we live in tomorrow.

Yet in 2025, education is still not freely available to all – and in many parts of the world girls are the first to be excluded from it.

For girls from the most disadvantaged communities in rural Africa, the chances of securing an education are vanishingly small.

Out of every 100 girls from families living in extreme poverty, just 5 will complete secondary school.

Support from The New York Times Communities Fund will help us change that!

TAKE ACTION NOW AND SEE YOUR GIFT MULTIPLY!

Not only will CAMFED graduates pay your generosity forward — this year the first $500,000 in donations will be matched by a group of committed CAMFED donors.

Now is the time to change the story of more girls — because the change we want tomorrow depends on the action we take today. Thank you for joining us on this journey. A brighter future is possible, and it all starts with sending a girl to school!
Angeline Murimirwa, CAMFED graduate and Chief Executive Officer

About The New York Times Communities Fund

This is the 114th year of The Communities Fund, which was rebranded from the Neediest Cases Fund in 2023. Since 1911, the Fund has raised more than $354M, all of which has been donated to social service agencies providing direct support to people in need, helping to change their lives.

This year, we are thrilled to be named alongside 6 other charities the Fund will support with their reader’s generosity: Per Scholas, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York, First Book, UJA-Federation of New York, Children’s Aid, and OneGoal.
