Day of the Girl 2025: Hear from future leaders - Video Transcript

Back to video

Francisca, secondary student, Ghana Everybody has the right to speak up. We should all come together so that we can help ourselves because nobody knows what the future holds. My name is Francisca and I’m in my third year. I’m in Form 3.

Fatou, secondary student, Ghana My name is Fatou. I’m in my final year.

Francisca I heard about CAMFED when I came to Form 1. We applied for the forms and we were selected.

Fatou As a girl, I will need a lot of things, and my parents cannot afford all those things. But since I joined CAMFED, I’ve been able to get some things, for example [menstrual] pad, yes.

Text On Screen Francisca and Fatou are supported in school by their Teacher Mentor – a government teacher trained in guidance and counselling by CAMFED.

Francisca I will say she’s “the mother” because when you are facing a lot of challenges, when you go to her, you tell her your problems, she will counsel, she will give you advice.

Fatou I believe in education because there are so many people out there who, without education, they wouldn’t be where they are today. And me seeing them, I feel motivated. I want to be educated to reach where they are.

Text On Screen Francisca and Fatou are raising their voices on the all-girls debate team at their school…

Francisca I’m the Principal Speaker for the motion. We are a team-and then we have the Supporting Speaker, we have the Summarizer. And we have a script, you have to learn it, memorize it, and go and see it paperless. Yes. With confidence. I’m always confident because I know I want the best out of it. Yeah.

Fatou I want to be a lawyer. I want to speak out. I want to be that kind of lawyer who, even if you don’t have money for your own lawyer, I will help you.

Francisca I hope the future to be right for us so that my sisters and those coming up will not suffer like the way we [have].

Fatou Everyone has the right to be educated and everyone has the freedom to bring out their view. Women’s view can help a lot. Our vice president is a lady. That means that every woman has the opportunity to lead. So therefore they should bring out whatever that is in them.
