Martha Fanny Gaisie and Mavis Aboko appear on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily show
Citi TV, one of Ghana’s leading television channels, is celebrating young women entrepreneurs through a series of interviews on its popular Breakfast Daily show.
In the most recent, CAMFED Association members and business owners, Martha Fanny Gaisie and Mavis Aboko, shared their experience of entrepreneurship, its benefits to them as individuals, as well as its positive impact on their wider communities. Both young women are from disadvantaged backgrounds and were supported through university by CAMFED and the Mastercard Foundation, before setting up their businesses.
“My impact on society includes economic impact through employing people. I have six people who I employ directly and I have also provided start-up capital for four women. “I have two initiatives with the business, one is on sexual and reproductive health and one is on climate change. It is a give-back service — the only thing CAMFED needs from us is giving back to others in society — so I have opted to educate them on menstrual hygiene and how to mitigate climate change.” – Mavis Aboko, CAMFED Association member and agriculture entrepreneur, Ghana

In this country there are so many unemployed young people, so when I started university I was already thinking of business ideas. I didn’t want to complete my studies and find myself without opportunities, and getting into entrepreneurship also meant I could pursue something I was really passionate about. I started my groundnut processing business, called Influx Groundnuts Products, in January 2019.
As global events continue to impact economies in Africa and around the world, business ventures provide a means for school graduates to support themselves, their families, and communities by creating jobs and prosperity. CAMFED assessed the business needs of the entrepreneurs and awarded kits and equipment to the successful applicants based on their individual requirements.
In February 2022, food entrepreneurs Amina Mutawakil and Dorcas Babet Kwofie shared their experiences on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily show. They discuss how being Mastercard Foundation Scholars at CAMFED Ghana helped them overcome challenges to their studies and their businesses during the pandemic, as well as their development as leaders and mentors.
