TIME100 Most Influential People
CAMFED CEO, Angeline Murimirwa, named to TIME’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.
As one of 5,000 activists, experts and leaders in attendance addressing women and girls’ issues on a global level.
“It is our responsibility to ensure every single girl goes to school and has an education.”
During the interview, Andrea and Ann also discussed some of the barriers and challenges that women and girls face, and CAMFED’s contributions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals announced in 2015. Ann described what she’s learned in the 25 years she’s been working in the international development and education fields. “I am convinced, more than ever, that the reality behind girls’ exclusion from education is family poverty….when a rural poor family has to make a choice because of a lack of finance, between their sons and their daughters, they choose their sons… because [they believe] boys have a much greater chance at future paid work.”
