On December 17, 2024, CAMFED Malawi renewed its close partnership with the Ministry of Education, signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and celebrating our joint commitment to providing girls from disadvantaged backgrounds with the support they need to thrive in and complete secondary education, and transition to secure and fulfilling livelihoods.
During a high-level event in Lilongwe, attended by Ministry officials, Board members, teachers, students, members of the CAMFED Association of women leaders educated with CAMFED support, Mr. Jennings Kayira, Education Division Manager for North in the Ministry of Education, underscored that the latest Memorandum of Understanding signed that day will strengthen partnership, collaboration and accountability. He praised CAMFED for its impactful work improving equitable access and quality of education.
The event started with a solidarity march, led by the Malawi Defense Force Brass Band
CAMFED Malawi took the opportunity to share CAMFED’s 2024-2030 strategic plan with the stakeholders present, and launched 6,284 new secondary and 302 new tertiary bursaries (scholarships) as part of our continued commitment to ensuring increased access to quality education. Student selection takes place at community level, where committees made up of educators, district officials, parents, traditional leaders and former students select the most marginalized girls for school-going support.
