Professor Dickson Mwansa has an extensive background in teaching, research and consultancy, and brings a wealth of education knowledge to his role as the CAMFED Zambia Board Chair.  

Professor Mwansa is Vice Chancellor and Professor of Adult Education and Extension Studies at the Zambian Open University (ZAOU), where he has served since 2002. Before then, he worked at the University of Zambia (UNZA) which he joined in 1978, serving as Head of the Departments of Adult Education and Extension Studies, Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and rising through the ranks to serve as Dean of the School of Education. 

Professor Mwansa has also been Coordinator of Research at the International Council for Adult Education and has research interests in literacy and development, and the social consequences of literacy/ illiteracy. These interests are reflected in the publication of research papers such as  ‘Perspectives on Literacy, Gender and Change: a case for Zambia’ and ‘Perspectives on issues of motivation and gender in Zambian literacy programs.’ 

Professor Mwansa holds an M.Ed and an Ed.D in Adult Education from the University of Toronto and a B.A with Education, Credit in Literature and Geography, from the University Zambia, and is a professional member of the International Association for University Presidents and International Congress on Education, as well as a Goodwill Ambassador for the African Council on Distance Education
