Mrs Matilda Bannerman-Mensah is a seasoned educationist with a passion for delivering quality education where the need is greatest. She is a past Director of the Girls Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service.

Mrs Bannerman-Mensah has many years’ experience of teaching English Language and Literature in English at pre-tertiary level. She began her teaching career at Nsein Senior High School where she taught English Language, Literature and Religious Studies for a year. She continued to teach English Language and Literature in many prestigious schools such as Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School in Takoradi, Holy Child School in Cape Coast as well as Adisadel College, also in Cape Coast.

In September 1999, she was employed as the district Training Officer for the Wenchi District Education Office where she was also the Assistant Director in charge of administration and finance. She was later appointed the District Director for Education, Mfantsiman District Education office in September 2004. In recognition of her hard work and dedication to girls’ education, she was appointed the Director of the Girls’ Education Unit in September 2005, a position she held until her retirement in 2014.

Mrs Bannerman-Mensah attended Wesley Girls High School where she completed her GCE ‘O’ Levels and ‘A’ Levels. She then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education at the University of Cape Coast.

Such is her passion for delivering quality education, especially to girls, Mrs. Bannerman–Mensah has participated in many education courses and conferences such as the Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Senegal and the ECOWAS meeting of experts on the Education of girls, women and vulnerable groups.
