Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, PhD, is a lawyer, Christian theologian, licensed professional counsellor, trainer, author, and advocate for women’s rights and child protection. With a career spanning several decades, she has made substantial contributions to advancing gender equality and social justice in Ghana and beyond.

Angela’s professional career is marked by impactful roles in both the public and private sectors, encompassing legal practice, non-profit leadership, public advocacy and theology. She is the Executive Director of The Ark Foundation, Ghana, a non-profit organization that established the first and still operational Domestic Violence Shelter in Ghana in 1999, alongside crisis services support for survivors of sexual violence and abuse. She also consults for companies on anti-sexual harassment policies and training.

Angela has received several awards and is on the lists of 100 Most Influential Ghanaians by Humanitarian Global in 2021; Africa’s 100 Most Influential Women by African Women Conference and Awards in 2024; and 40 Most Inspirational Female Leaders in Ghana by Young Global Leaders Network in 2024.

Born and raised in Ghana, Angela developed a strong sense of justice and empathy from an early age. Her academic journey led her to pursue law, focusing on human rights and gender studies. She earned her law degree from the University of Ghana and furthered her education in women’s rights and public policy, gaining a robust foundation to tackle the pressing issues faced by women and children.
