What we do
Through the CAMFED Association, women are leading action on the big challenges their countries face - from child marriage, and girls’ exclusion from education, to unemployment and climate change.
Social justice starts with educated girls, supporting each other to become independent, influential women, working together with communities to provide equal access to tools and opportunities for all.
When women gain access to skills training, resources and opportunities to grow rural enterprises, they gain economic independence and agency, supporting themselves, their families and communities to thrive.
Educated women make choices that reduce future carbon emissions and increase community resilience to climate change, including through leadership for sustainable futures and the adoption of climate-smart technologies.

Since 1993, we have supported 5,505,822 children to go to school in Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe
The CAMFED Association - our powerful network of women leaders educated with CAMFED support - is 207,941 strong and counting
139,461 CAMFED Champions (parents, teachers, traditional leaders, district officials and graduates) actively champion and support the advancement of girls and young women in their communities
CAMFED supports girls in 7,018 government partner schools across 166 districts to access school, succeed, and become leaders of change in their communities
Every school graduate joining the CAMFED Association shares her expertise with others, and financially supports at least 3 more girls to go to school.*
Girls educated with CAMFED’s support belong to Africa’s largest and fastest-growing network of young women leaders, who are capitalizing on their own education to support many more girls through school.
And as community leaders, they pass on the skills they learn to even more young women, creating employment and opportunity, tackling inequality and injustice.
This is what we call the CAMFED Multiplier Effect, and what Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times calls a “perpetual motion machine” — the positive impact a girl’s education has on others’ lives.
