CIES 2024 Panel with CAMFED's Regina Lialabi: Moving evidence into action

Research and government partnerships are key to inclusive education and collective leadership. At the Comparative and International Education Societies Conference (CIES), CAMFED’s Regina Lialabi from Zambia will discuss our participatory research with government partners, with a focus on integrating education innovations led by young women as peer mentors into the wider government school system.  On the panel chaired by Tricia Wind of the International Development Research Center (IDRC), Regina will be joined by Marina Dreux Frotté of NORRAG and Knut Staring of the University of Oslo.

Meaningful Measurement for Girls' Empowerment and Equitable Impact - Marmalade Festival at Skoll World Forum

CAMFED’s Lydia Wilbard and Catherine Boyce will join an exciting session co-hosted by MSI Reproductive Choices, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and the Migrants Resilience Collaborative. We’ll speak about innovative measurement approaches that are accountable to girls, young women and their communities as we look at  impact for girls’ health, education, livelihoods and human rights outcomes. You’ll hear expert panelists talk about how we can use equity metrics to define, drive, measure and sustain impact.

2023 Yidan Prize Summit

December 4, 2023

2020 Yidan Prize for Education Development laureates Angeline (Angie) Murimirwa, CAMFED CEO, and Lucy Lake, CAMFED Executive Advisor, joined forces with The Hon. Dr David Moinina Sengeh, Chief Minister and former Education Minister of Sierra Leone and author of the book Radical Inclusion, Ruth Kagia, former Global Education Director at the World Bank, as well as Baela Raza Jamil of Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) in Pakistan. In the Summit’s final session, they discussed what equity and inclusion in education means for systems change, drawing on CAMFED’s three decades of experience in advancing girls’ education in rural Africa.

3rd International Quality Education Conference (IQEC)

November 28, 2023

At the 3rd Annual International Quality Education Conference (IQEC) hosted by the Tanzania Education Network (TEN/MET), of which CAMFED is a longstanding member, our Executive Director for Learning and Engagement, Lydia Wilbard, joined a panel discussion about addressing early marriage and teen pregnancy. She spoke alongside education specialists from Zimbabwe and the World Bank. The next day, CAMFED Tanzania and the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) hosted a roundtable for Civil Society Organizations.

Day of the Girl Climate Action Roundtable with Chise Kabungo

CAMFED Association climate-smart Agriculture Guide Chise Kabungo joined a virtual roundtable in honor of International Day of the Girl, hosted by FHI 360 and including leaders from the  FCDO’s Girls’ Education Challenge and other partners. Speaking alongside other youth leaders, Chise described the effects of climate change on her rural community in Zambia, and what young educated women are doing about it.

Shungu Gwarinda, CAMFED’s Executive Director – Africa, joined a side event hosted by Devex at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

She spoke alongside Palwasha Hassan of Mina’s List, Jennifer O’Donoghue of the Center for Universal Education at Brookings and Eric Hanushek of Stanford University on the topic of ‘Transforming education: Overcoming crisis, improving learning outcomes.

Women Deliver 2023 Conference, Kigali, Rwanda

July 17-20, 2023

Angeline Murimirwa, CAMFED CEO, and Lydia Wilbard, CAMFED Executive Director: Learning and Engagement traveled to Kigali to participate in the Women Deliver 2023 Conference. They spoke at a number of sessions, including in the Education Zone hosted by the Global Partnership for Education and Echidna Giving, and strategic partners in discussion on a variety of themes including equitable education and girls’ readiness for the 21st century economy.

10 years after sharing her life story at the 2013 Skoll World Forum, CAMFED’s Lydia Wilbard joined in with celebrations at this special 20th Anniversary edition: “Let’s come together to accelerate innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems.”

Lydia co-narrated and starred in an inspiring film about 20 Years of Impact, which premiered at the event’s Opening Plenary.
