Sign the #CAMFEDsisterhood pledge and take a learning journey with game changing women across the globe.
To reflect this, His Royal Highness, at the request of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, will travel to Malawi to meet with members of the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) Alumnae association, CAMA, some of whom he first met at a Queen’s Commonwealth Trust event in Zambia in November 2018.
Most of these young female champions of girls’ education have been supported to go to school by CAMFED through UK Aid from the Department of International Development (DFID). The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust — with The Duke of Sussex as President, and The Duchess of Sussex as Vice President — passionately supports CAMA’s leadership, philanthropy and community outreach, firm in the knowledge that these young women are the experts in solving the problems children in their districts are facing, and in rallying communities behind the need to secure every child’s right to quality education. Both organizations are co-hosting the event.
CAMA in Malawi was formed in 2013 and has grown from a membership of 217 to 17,530 young women leaders across 17 rural districts. 40 CAMA leaders will attend the special event to represent this powerful peer support and leadership network, which is also active in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Ghana — numbering 140,000 members across sub-Saharan Africa. The young women will update His Royal Highness on their progress to support the most excluded children to go to school, succeed in school, and fulfil their potential after school.
They will be joined at the event by representatives from the Malawian Ministry of Education, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and DFID, as well as the CEO of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
