Rockcilia was an orphan by the time she was eight years old, and her family struggled to afford the costs of her education – including essential supplies, fees and a uniform.
Rockcilia did all she could to stay in school. She worked on farms to make ends meet, and left home at 4:30 am each day to walk the 7 km to school. This left her hungry, exhausted and with no time to study. By the age of 14, Rockcilia’s friends were encouraging her to give up on her education and get married.
It was at this critical stage in her life that Rockcilia was selected by her community to receive a scholarship from CAMFED, and a place in the new school hostel. She can now put all of her energy into her studies and she hopes to become a doctor.
